Why a genetic research laboratory?
The completion of the Human Genome Project is perhaps the most significant scientific achievement of this century; it has opened a new chapter in medical research. Today, Molecular Genetics seems to be one of the most advanced fields of research pursued by scientists all over the world to address chronic and congenital disorders.
Molecular genetics allows the characterization of genes and helps identify the diseases associated with them. Early detection of the abnormal genes in patients lead to an improved diagnosis and understanding of the disease causing process.
In addition molecular genetic analysis could produce a DNA fingerprint for each individual and provide useful information in the field of population genetics.
The creation of the Genetics Research Laboratory is to complement what other prominent researchers and research institutes in Lebanon have initiated in this field.
Our goal is to promote and provide research and development in molecular genetics both in Lebanon and elsewhere towards the achievement of the highest standards of health care. Therefore, we seek and welcome collaborative efforts from all of Lebanon's health and academic institutes to help us achieve our goal. |
